October Update #1

1. WEEKLY RAFFLE  - .  The PVSS Board decided to hold a weekly lucky draw of $20.00 gift certificates from Pemberton SuperMarket, timing the first draw to celebrate International Seniors Day - October 1.  They hope you enjoy the fun of seeing who wins each week and that it will be a way of staying engaged and in touch with each other.   

The recipients will be drawn from our membership list with each member being randomly allocated a number (names are removed once a number has been drawn). The lucky winners will be notified via email or phone and where possible the card will be delivered or sent to you through the mail.

2. SENIORS FLU CLINIC  will be held on Friday October 30th from10am to 12pm in the Grand Hall in the Community Centre .  Note:  The regular vaccine is free however, the High dose that is around $90 and not available at the Pemberton flu clinic.  It should be available in pharmacies in Whistler soon.  You may wish to visit this website for more information..  https://immunize.ca/influenza-campaign

In order to maintain social distancing you are required to schedule your appointment - there will be no "drop in" available as there is no waiting area for those who come early. There will be appx 5 nurses giving the injections and time slots of 5 mins will have to be booked online.  [For those who have any technical difficulties some of the Board members have volunteered to assist you schedule your time (or do it for you if you would prefer).]

Scheduling process   A special scheduling app. (Janes App.) will be available in the next week and directions for using the online process will be posted in the next Update. We have been assured that it will be a "simple " process.
Covid Protocols   Entrance to the hall will only be from the patio at the side of the Community Centre - no access through the Community Centre. You are encouraged to wear a mask and hand sanitizing stations will be available.
Clinic procedures   Please sign in with receptionist on arrival (at time scheduled). If you wish to have the pneumococcal as well as the influenza vaccine you will need to bring your care card. Once you have had your vaccination you will be asked to wait either in your car or outside the centre (some chairs provided on patio) for at least 10 mins in case you have a reaction to the injection. Please dress for the weather. Unfortunately, there will be no refreshments or opportunity for visiting as we have enjoyed in past years. NB there will be no access to toilets.

Free Vaccines available at clinic.  Both the regular influenza  and the pneumococcal vaccines will be available. Should you prefer to receive your vaccination at an alternate time or if you wish to have the enhanced vaccine, the four pharmacies in Whistler will be providing the service . It is suggested you call ahead for a time. The regular influenza vaccine is free and the stronger dose for 65+ clients will cost approximately $90. For more information about 2020

NOTE: The Pemberton pharmacy will not be dispensing the flu vaccinations. Seniors who receive regular visits from Home Care will receive their vaccinations during the nurses visit.
